Ruakaka-trained racehorses made a clean sweep of the feature race on day one of a two-day Whangarei Racing Club meet yesterday.
The 91.6 More FM 2100m race was won with 2 lengths to spare by Ima Lady (pictured), ridden by Lisa Cropp and trained by Donna and Dean Logan and Chris Gibbs. Owners include the late Bob Tait's family.
Second in the Ruakaka trifecta was Skandel, also trained by the Logans and Gibbs; with I Command, trained by Kenny Rae of Ruakaka, in third place.
The meet continues today with another eight races, featuring the Rosvall ITM Open 1300m.
With the Canterbury races postponed by the same storm that hammered Northland earlier in the week, the Ruakaka event will be the focus of New Zealand's racing enthusiasts today.
Ruakaka's well-draining sand base makes it one of the top winter tracks in the country.
