While the sun stayed behind the clouds punters could nevertheless be well pleased with the Dargaville Racing Club's autumn meeting on Wednesday (May 7).
The heavy track may not have been to some of the horses' liking and with many running wide, times were slow. However the ground under foot stood up well to the test of flying hooves and the crowd was equally impressed with the good conditions in the car park and punters area. With ample refreshments available, punters enjoyed the background jazz band while they pondered their decisions.
The on-course turnover was around $100,000 similar to that of last year.
Winner of the Fashion in the Field competition was Karen Marinkovich from Tangowahine. Ms Marinkovich caught the judges' eyes with her black trouser suit and matching hat combination and won herself a $250 voucher from Polwarth Design. Second place went to Denise Hughes (Auckland) and Denise Powell (Ruawai).
The male fashion stake winner was Micheal Campbell from Mangawhai who pocketed himself a $150 voucher from Jack Fannon Menswear.
The club looks forward to its summer meeting in November.
