The Northland under-18 women's hockey team are on track to qualify top of their pool at their age group national tournament after handing Hawkes Bay a 7-2 thrashing at the Rosvall Stadium in Whangarei yesterday.
Here Northland captain Kelsey Dunn shows her form during yesterday's big win.
The team played Marlborough this morning and were due to meet Manawatu this afternoon.
Coach Graeme Cotton said the expectation was for the team to win both games and qualify top of their pool, especially after yesterday's performance.
"It was tight for a while but then we soaked up the pressure and came away with the game in the second half," Cotton said.
Leading 2-0 at halftime, Northland let in two soft goals to be 3-2 ahead early in the second half before polishing off the win with a big finish.
Players to stand out were Dunn at centre half and midfielders Leila Nicholson and Natasha Cotton.
