Under-21 hockey players are today enjoying a day off as the national tournament in Whangarei reaches the halfway point.
While Northland teams have not had the most desirable of starts, our nearest neighbours, North Harbour, are looking like being serious contenders.
So far, Northland's women's team have had two losses - 3-1 against Harbour, and 3-0 against Capital - with their third match taking place last night after the Northern Advocate went to print.
The Northland men's team have had even more of a struggle, suffering two heavy defeats at the hands of Canterbury [9-2] and the Southern combination [10-0].
