Northland's senior hockey sides were licking their wounds yesterday after bringing home both the men's and women's wooden spoons from the NHL tournament in Auckland.
Northland men lost their last two matches 9-2 against Midlands and the seventh and eighth playoff against Canterbury yesterday 5-0.
The team's inability to finish their chances proved costly.
Similarly, the women's team finished with two losses, a 7-2 defeat by Capital and a narrow 1-2 loss in the playoff to Southern.
Auckland defended the men's title with a hard-won 2-1 victory over Southern, while Canterbury beat Auckland 3-1 in the women's final.
