Hockey: Hat-tricks galore in demolition

It was raining hat-tricks as Springfield tore apart Hikurangi 11-1 in Northland women's premier grade action.

Three players - Kelsey Dunn, Jody Nichol and Jade McLeod - all finished the game with three goals to their name.

Springfield were simply too good for Hikurangi who have struggled to be competitive in recent weeks.

Springfield are co-leaders of the competition along with Old Girls, who were 3-1 winners over Whangarei Girls High School in a much closer match.

The other match of the round saw Maungakaramea regain their winning form with a 1-0 win over Kamo High School.

In the men's competition, Maungakaramea scraped home 2-1 over a resurgent Mangapai, while leaders Springfield easily beat an under-strength Bream Bay 5-1.
