Springfield's women's team have all but secured second place with one more round remaining until playoffs with their 2-1 win over Girls' High on Saturday.
Springfield coach Angeline Waetford commented on how Whangarei Girls' High School had pushed them throughout, adding that her side probably got lucky with Girls' High struggling to convert the opportunities they created.
"We did manage to hold on, which is pleasing," Waetford said. "We're doing all right, I'm reasonably happy with where we are at the moment.
"We've got a lot of players who're new to premier hockey and they're still getting used to that higher level when you go from school hockey [to premier level]."
Waetford said it was positive to get the win while experimenting with players' positions. She played Alana Millington at fullback to try something different, which Waetford thought was a successful positional shift. "That worked really well because she can put really long balls through, and back there teams tend to not mark her and she has the space."
