The success of the Northland girls' under-11 hockey team has their coach Graeme Bint optimistic about their future.
"I'm really pleased with them, there's definitely some good talent coming through, they've had some good results and are coming along quite well as a team," he said.
The team has shown plenty of promise after their opening match of the season - a 0-3 defeat by North Harbour in Auckland.
After that rather ominous start, they had a fantastic result in Rotorua in early August, beating the hosts Bay of Plenty 1-0 and following it up with a 2-1 win over Tauranga.
The team played two games in Auckland over the weekend. They were held to a 0-0 draw by a plucky Thames Valley side, in a very exciting game.
In the afternoon, they came up against Auckland but their opposition stood no chance against a fired up Northland team. Goals to Ella Rose Kini, Sara McKean and Claudia King saw them win the encounter 3-0.
The girls have just one double-header of games left in their competitive season coming up in Whangarei against Waikato and Counties-Manukau. They play Waikato at 11am and Counties at 1.30pm on Sunday September 9 at ITM Rosvall Stadium.
