The Northern Premier Football League did not get any easier for the North Force women's team who went up against table leaders Lynn Avon.
At home in Auckland, Lynn Avon outclassed the newly promoted visitors 9-0 on Sunday.
It has not been an easy step-up to the league for the girls, facing
three top teams - Glenfield Rovers, Three Kings United and Lynn Avon - in their first three rounds, and losing each match.
North Force assistant coach/player Dee Tunstall said despite the large deficit the team played well and never gave up.
"The team is still really positive," she said.
"This is a huge learning curve for us - and we are still trying new formations."
Among the standout players was skipper Sandi Burleigh, in the backline, and right mid-fielder Katy Mullenger.
With the bye this weekend, North Force would use the time to recover from three tough matches, Tunstall said.
Meanwhile, the North Force men's side are back in action this weekend, facing fourth-placed Glenfield following a week off.
Coach Dean Wheatley said he hoped his side could get back to their winning ways and move up from the eighth position they filled at present.
North Force started the 2009 season with a bang, crushing Hibiscus Coast, but things went downhill in the following two rounds, despite patches of inspirational play.
North Force gifted points to Forrest Hill and Albany from games which should have gone their way.
"It is a big game for us this weekend after those two defeats.
"Hopefully the injury worries are all cleared up after our bye last weekend," Wheatley said.
Wheatley will be keeping a keen eye on Matthew Ward, Adam Sharp (ankle) and Kyle Mac (foot) at training this week, to see if they recover in time for Saturday's game at Glenfield.
Meanwhile, defender Mike Crowley will be available again, back from his two-match suspension.
Aside from the recent hiccup, the coach said he was happy with how the team was evolving, in a league in which clubs such as Glenfield and Waitakere had spent money to recruit, he said.
"We'll keep batting on with what we've got - we've got good players, it's just a difficult league to play in.
"If we lose three in a row, then we'll have to take a look at things, but I'm sure we'll do okay."
