A full field will contest the second Golf Northland trial for 2012, this weekend's Westpac Northern Wairoa 54 Hole Men's Open.
The customary Northern Wairoa hospitality and the addition of the tournament to the Golf Northland trial schedule have ensured a top quality capacity field will tee up on Saturday and Sunday.
Whangarei teenager Kadin Neho, who is defending champion, will be after more of the same as he attempts a repeat of his runaway win in 2011 and continues to press his claim for the coveted number one ranking in the Northland senior side. In 2011 he picked up a number of senior tournament titles throughout Northland leading to selection as the number two ranked player in the 2011 Northland Interprovincial team behind team captain Brad Bonnington (Wellsford).
Bonnington will want to ensure there is no repeat of Neho's 2011 domination. He will be joined at Northern Wairoa by the rest of last year's Interprovincial team, Lee Neumann (Northland), Alex Neely (BOI), Sean Masters (Kaitaia) and Luke Brown (The Pines), all of whom have shown promising form during 2012.
With them will be other players trying for selection in the first Northland fixture of the year, the Great Northern Battle against North Harbour. For the men the Harbour fixture involves teams of 10 Seniors, 6 Masters, 4 Under 19s and 4 Under 16s. These teams will be announced following the conclusion of Sunday's third round.
