The cream of the country's Futsal players will be in Whangarei tomorrow, taking on locals in the five-a-side football competition at the Town Basin.
A 40m by 20m Futsal court was installed at the Town Basin on Wednesday, as a forerunner to the Fifa Under 20 World Cup next year, which includes games in Whangarei.
So far this week, business house games have been held at the court, along with others among local football clubs. Today and tomorrow there will be more games between local clubs and schools, before the NZ Futsal Whites play games at 12pm and 3pm tomorrow against local teams.
Organisers said anybody keen for a game could turn up and play in between the organised matches. Teams have five members and play for two 10-minute halves.
Next year's Under-20 World Cup will feature 24 teams over 52 games. Toll Stadium will host three group matches, the first kicking off at 4pm on May 30, just a few hours after the tournament's opening game. The second will be at 1pm on June 2, and the third from 2pm on June 7.
