Participants in the Inaugural Teen Circuits programme for 12-16 year-olds gained strength and fitness after completing an eight-week course at CLM Health and Fitness gym at the Whangarei Aquatic Centre.
A number of participants posted personal bests in athletics and swimming. The programme is an opportunity for local athletes to increase their strength and power in a safe environment with a qualified trainer.
Trainer Debbie Mair said the programme is an innovative and original concept.
"This is an example of positive commitment and discipline shown by the young teens who participate," she said.
The end-of-term certificates were given out by Ian Babe, a Sparc-registered coach, who gave a motivational speech to the youngsters.
The new term starts on October 8 and already has 28 children enrolled. The new term will be operated over three afternoons; Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 4-4.45pm.
The Monday and Wednesday sessions are strength building for budding sportsmen and women, with the Tuesday session in core stability for teenagers. This would also be suited to those with injuries and/or health and weight problems.
Mair said feedback from the first programme was enthusiastic and positive and most mentioned significant increases in strength.
