Northland Rugby's senior development squad are still looking to put together their perfect game and hope they can do it when Waikato roll into town this weekend.
The Northland team are travelling well in the Northern Regional Development competition and are just one point behind Waikato.
If they can beat Waikato there is a good chance they will host a quarterfinal, coach Adriaan Ferris said.
"Waikato are going to be a tough ask but we've proven at times this season that we can compete well with the top teams in this competition," he said.
Winning becomes a matter of pulling out your top performance when you most need it, Ferris said.
"We've yet to really develop consistency and it'd be nice to think the boys can play for 80 minutes this week and give everything they can - regardless of the result - and at the end of the game then we can be happy with that," he said.
The coaching staff have been less than impressed with the way the team's performance has varied from week to week throughout the season. Even their best performance, a victory over North Harbour at Toll Stadium - their first in several years - was far from perfect, Ferris said.
