If you can't cross the mountain, the next best is to run around it - or take more time and walk around it as you take in the scenery.
First thing tomorrow morning, you can enter the annual 10km Round the Mountain Fun Run/Walk, despite the statement on the internet saying that entries closed on Thursday.
You will need to be at Hurupaki School, on Three Mile Bush Rd, just after 8am, with the $20 entry fee for an adult or $13 for a junior (under-18).
At 9am, with a blast of the starter's gun, you will be sent on your way, along with 350-400 other participants.
Although the run/walk is a fun event rather than a race, there is always an interesting tussle for first place.
But official times are not recorded and results showing all competitors' times are not published, nor are there any prizes and certificates for the winners.
However, there is a very large list of spot prizes, including a $1000 travel voucher from Pauline Dinsdale and four pairs of Asics shoes from Smiths Sports Shoes.
Everyone a winner in trek around mountain
