HUKERENUI showjumper Vicki Wilson was the pick of a large Northland contingent at the Horse of the Year Competition at Hastings over the weekend.
Wilson missed out on any major titles but her consistency in the events she rode in saw her win the Young Rider of the Year points title.
She excelled in several events, such as the New Zealand Speed Championships, where she took second and third place on two different mounts, but despite the lack of titles she was able to add to her points tally in each event to win the points title.
There were close to 30 Northland riders at the competition - the largest number in years - and emerging riders such as Rae Pivac and Nikisha Lammers claimed their first titles at the country's most prestigious equestrian event.
Most of the Northland competitors were there to compete in the showjumping but Whangarei's Karen Anderson continued a strong season in the dressage with some encouraging results.
