Heavy rain has once again frustrated Northland professional Caroline Bon's efforts to make her mark on the Ladies European Tour.
After a good opening round of one-over par 73 in the Deutsche Bank Ladies Swiss Open on Friday morning (NZT), Bon only completed six holes of her second round before play was suspended by torrential rain.
The interrupted second round was scheduled to be completed at the Gerre Losone Golf Club yesterday morning before the third round got underway, but heavy rain again made the course unplayable and the decision was made to reduce the tournament from 72 to 54 holes.
Bon remains one shot off the projected cut line of one-under after shooting two birdies and one bogey at the start of her second round but conditions for the remaining 12 holes are likely to be difficult when play gets underway this morning.
Spending the best part of two days waiting around isn't likely to have helped the Whangarei 23-year-old's preparation and she faces a tough 12-hole challenge to make the cut.
It is the second of Bon's three LET tournaments to be affected by unseasonal weather. Heavy rain and thunderstorms shortened the Slovakian Open from 72 to 54 holes at the end of May.
Sweden's Carin Koch leads with nine under, one clear of Frenchwoman Sophie Giquel-Bettan, Australian Kristie Smith and England's Laura Davies.
Wellington's Lynnette Brooky, the other Kiwi in the field, finished her second round on three-under to safely make the cut.
The rich $926,000 tournament, this year held at Ticino in southern Switzerland, has been hampered by rain in its short history. Of the six times it has been played, it has been shortened three times due to bad weather.
Downpour puts cloud over Bon's hopes for Swiss Open
