Budding young golfer Hunter Campbell is going places with his sport - to Disneyland, after his name was picked in a nationwide draw this week.
Campbell was one of more than 100 Northland kids who attended the regional final of the Junior Tiger tournament on November 15 at the Northland Golf Club.
There were two trips to Disneyland on offer. The first was awarded to Opotiki's Tyler Kingi. The second went to 10-year-old Campbell, who shot 52 in the competition in November - well off the winning mark but he was hardly disappointed, said his mother Nadine.
"He went pretty well that day and he just loves getting out there and playing any time he can," she said.
Campbell, a Hurupaki Primary School pupil, is a keen golfer who plays whenever he can get one of his parents to take him down to the Northland Golf Course and trains regularly with coach Matthew Davis. He went into the consolation draw and heard on Monday that he had won the trip for himself and one adult - from more than 2500 kids who entered.
His mother said: "My husband thought, seeing he was the caddy that day, he should go but we've decided not to get into a debate and instead we'll pay the extra and all of us will go."
