Whangarei Boys' High premier grade skipper Rory Darkins was a hard act to follow when he scored a ton against Kamo in their first two-day competition game.
Twenty20 champions Boys' High have already booked themselves a berth in the one-day competition final against Maungakaramea on December 19, and are looking to make their third final, after a stellar start in Northland Cricket's two-day competition at Kamo.
Boys' High were sent into bat when Kamo won the toss, with Darkins and Todd Beehre opening the batting.
While Darkins stayed at the crease for an unbeaten 109, Beehre was lbw for 12. The middle-order batsmen contributed nicely, including Henry Cooper (25), Jordan Antunovich (23) and Vishaan Harypursat, who had started to build a respectable innings before Kamo's Kirk Henderson bowled him for 42.
Logan Choat was the best of the Kamo bowlers, taking two wickets for 24 runs during his eight overs. After 96.2 overs, Darkins declared at 282/8.
Kamo opener Luke Russell returned to the pavilion, bowled for a duck by Richard Kaufman, who took 3/20.
Russell's fellow opener Richie MacPherson did not fare much better, dismissed lbw by the WBHS skipper.
Dean Williams was the only batsman to reach double figures (16), and Kamo ended the day on 41/5 after 21 overs.
At Cobham Oval, City hosted Onerahi-Central with City winning the toss and electing to bat first.
Captain Bert Horner (31) and Chris Page (51) got their their side away to a handy start, before the middle order underwent a mini collapse.
Some tidy bowling from Jamie Burgess, who took two wickets for 27 runs in his 11 overs, Nic Breslin 2/30, and Jamie Matthews 2/36 had City all out for 156 after 57.2 overs.
Onerahi matched the total in 50 overs, with six wickets remaining, thanks to sound efforts from Craig Russell (49) and Aaron Bradley, who belted 61 including seven boundaries.
Matthews and Gareth Blithe were left carrying the bat, with 17 and 4 respectively.
Meanwhile, visitors Maungakaramea won the toss at Kaipara Flats and sent the hosts into bat.
