Whangarei's Melva Robinson comfortably won the junior Lanna Morgan tournament, held at the Whangarei Greens over the weekend.
Robinson was too strong for the other four competing for the junior title at the tournament, downing second-placed Bev Heappey from Maungakaramea in her closest match 24-14, in what essentially turned out to be the final.
Heappey won her three other matches but all of them were very close, with two of them won by a single point.
Whangarei's Brent Robinson ran out the C Grade winner, with one win, with Auckland's Hilary Salmons and Kaitaia's Cheryl Hoek also scoring one win apiece. The senior Lanna Morgan competition was won last weekend by George Depree, with the runner-up Tangi Kirkman and the intermediate champion Kath Rankin.
