GEORGE Depree maintained his grip on the Lanna Morgan Memorial Tournament title by winning the competition last week.
The senior competition was held at the Kensington Greens last Wednesday, with Depree holding off the challenge of the Whangarei club's Verna Williscroft in the final.
The first game was extremely close with Depree just beating his challenger 26-19, but the top-ranked player ran away with the second game limiting his opponent to just one point.
Williscroft beat the other two senior players Dorothy Depree and Cheng TsungTe on her way to the final. Dorothey Depree was the intermediate player with the highest average score at the tournament.
On Saturday, the junior competition of the Lanna Morgan Memorial was held at the Whangarei club.
Bill Mayor won the Mary Knight Trophy on a count-back from Sally Mayor, who as the runner-up, won the Norwood Trophy.
Three players ended up with three wins in the tournament.
Keith Hannam also won three games including a 20-12 victory over the eventual winner.
The best C Grade player at the tournament was Melva Robinson.
