Northern Districts bowler Joey Yovich said he would swap his State Twenty20 most valuable player title for a few points in the recently completed competition.
ND finished the contest dead last, after being winless in all their matches but at least no-one can blame Yovich.
His form with the ball was sensational, carrying on after an equally good State Shield campaign.
He took a wicket in every Twenty20 game, including 3/23 against Canterbury and 3/34 against the Central Stags.
"Obviously it's pretty neat to come away with something like that but I'd probably have traded it during the competition for a few more wins," he said.
The ND veteran has more milestones to achieve this season and is just one wicket away from equalling ND coach Grant Bradburn's tally of 231 first class wickets.
Two wickets in the State Championship match that starts against Auckland today will give him the second highest wicket tally for the association - especially impressive because the other four top bowlers are all spinners.
"It's been a pleasing season so far, I've been consistent in keeping my standards high and at the end of the day that's all I can control..."
Yovich said there have been some changes in the ND side this week that will allow emerging players a chance to showcase their wares.
Seventeen-year-old Counties Manukau wicketkeeper Shane Gadsdon has been rushed into the squad to replace Peter McGlashan, who has been promoted into the Black Caps to deputise for Brendon McCullum, who is unable to keep wickets with a thumb injury.
Regular back-up keeper BJ Watling is gone for the season, after breaking a finger in the field playing against New Zealand A - giving Gadsdon an opportunity.
Daniel Vettori and Tim Southee are also out with the Black Caps, while Brent Arnel, Daniel Flynn and Kane Williamson are away with the New Zealand A side.
"One door closes and another opens," Yovich said.
"It gives the young fellow a chance at this level... and also guys like Brad Wilson and Anton Devcich at the top of the order," he said.
For the fifth-placed Knights, there is plenty of incentive to go for points but for their third-placed visitors there's even more.
The ND team is: James Marshall (Captain), Graeme Aldridge, Trent Boult, Te Ahu Davis, Anton Devcich, Hamish Marshall, Bruce Martin, Peter McGlashan, Michael Parlane, Bradley Scott, Brad Wilson, Joseph Yovich.
The Auckland side is: Michael Bates, Steven Croft, Colin de Grandhomme, Gareth Hopkins, Richard Jones (Captain), Anaru Kitchen, Tim McIntosh, Andy McKay, Tarun Nethula, Lance Shaw, Scott Styris, Daryl Tuffey.
