Tomorrow sees the first round of Northland Cricket's Lion Red Cup one-day competition, with defending champions Onerahi Central looking to continue where they left off.
However, while Onerahi are the current title holders, Kaipara Flats are the team to beat after rampaging through the Mark Cromie Twenty20 competition.
Last weekend, boosted by the inclusion of regular first-class cricketer Brad Wilson, Kaipara claimed the title with a whopping 141-run victory in the final over Onerahi.
Luckily for Kaipara's opposition, Wilson will not be a regular addition throughout the season as he takes up his contract with Northern Districts.
This weekend's match-ups, two of which are at Kensington Park, sees Whangarei Boys' High School take on Kaipara while City are charged with looking to tip over Onerahi. Both matches are in Whangarei.
