The chance to face his brother in their hometown will provide Wellington batsman Neal Parlane the motivation he needs to get over a calf injury - in time for the opening State Shield match of the season.
The sight of the two brothers crossing swords was always going to be a crowd-puller and Firebirds manager Dave Painter said Neal would have to pass a fitness test today before being confirmed for the match against Northern Districts in Whangarei on Sunday.
Parlane suffered the injury during Wellington's State Championship draw against CD in the capital his week but Painter said the injury had responded well to treatment and he should be on the plane to Whangarei tomorrow.
The Wellington selectors have named a 13-strong squad for the game, including five players who have yet to play a domestic one-day match.
BJ Crook, Andrew Lamb and Harry Boam have all made their first-class debuts this summer while batsman Stephen Murdoch and allrounder Ronald Karaitiana will make their Wellington debuts if selected.
Wellington squad: Matthew Bell (captain), Neal Parlane, Stephen Murdoch, BJ Crook, Grant Elliott, Graham Napier, Chris Nevin, Dewayne Bowden, Luke Woodcock, Harry Boam, Mark Houghton, Ronald Karaitiana, Andrew Lamb (one to be omitted).
