Northland Cricket will be running three cricket field days this week, with the first one taking place tomorrow in Northern Wairoa at the Intermediate School Grounds.
The HRV Cricket Field Days will give schools the chance to enter eight-per-side teams (as many as they like) and play modified cricket matches which involve participants all having the opportunity to bat, bowl, field and keep wicket.
The Northland Cricket Association provides umpires for every game so the kids get good playing opportunities. The day is about participation and enjoyment but it is hoped that kids have the drive to be successful as individuals and as a team.
Northland cricket coach Stephen Cunis thinks the tournament will be a hit with the schools and pupils.
"The schools have got on board, which is a great reflection of the work Neal Parlane and the coaching team have done. So far, we have 22 teams playing in Northern Wairoa, 10 teams playing at Maungakaramea and 22 teams playing at Kensington Park," said Cunis.
