Cricket: Kaipara outplay opponents in T20s

Kaipara Flats was the standout team, dominating first Zest Insurance WBHS and then City in six T20 matches played at Kensington Park in Whangarei on Saturday.

Kaipara Flats batsman Michael Parlane was in fine form, hitting boundaries all over the ground, when he scored 94 against WBHS in the first round of the series.

With help from Mike O'Flaherty 44 and Jordan Kose 39, Kaipara Flats - 199 for 3 - beat WBHS 50.

WBHS was totally outplayed in all facets of the game.

The WBHS wickets were shared around with Kyran Dill bowling tidily.

In the next first round game, Onerahi Central batsman Dewayne Bowden played a superb innings to set his team up for an easy win over Kamo.

OCCC scored 151 for 4 (Bowden 63, Henry Cooper 38) to beat Kamo 99, with Curtis Cherrington 26 the best of the Kamo batsmen.

In the final first round game, Neal Parlane was instrumental in Maungakaramea, 111 for 3, beating City 110 for 7.

Neal Parlane scored 45 not out and Aiden Miller knocked up 32 not out for Maungakaramea.

Harry Darkins (33) and Ian Page (22) were the best of the City batsmen, and bowler Cody Andrews got 2 for 18 off 4.

City did not fare any better when it played Kaipara Flats in the second round.

Michael Parlane and Jordan Kose again got Kaipara off to a good start.

The City attack struggled against the in-form Kaipara batting order, reaching 153 for 9 off their 20 overs.

The Kaipara attack led by Matt Taylor and Dill dismantled the City top order. None of the City batsman offered any resistance, limping to 39-9 with O'Flaherty claiming 3-7 off 4, grabbing the last City scalp on the last ball of the innings to complete City's misery.

In the second round, Kamo 108 for 8 (Curtis Cherrington 27 and Alex Tunstall 3 for 22 off 4) beat WBHS 100 for 6 (Kashmir Harypursat 24 and Ben Hyde 2 for 4 off 4).

It was a much better performance by the WBHS team, but they just fell short by way of Hyde's demanding spell.

In the final second round game, Onerahi Central 158 (Bowden 58, Craig Russell 41) beat Maungakaramea 141 for 7 (Neal Parlane 65 not out).

Bowden again played well with the bat, hitting the ball with power and precision, and Cooper and Tom Herman both bowled tidily for Onerahi.

Neal Parlane was again to the fore for Maungakaramea, but his team fell 17 short.
