Bay of Islands has demonstrated its wealth of sporting talent across a number of events.
A strong shooting contingent of Travis Butson, Dillon Richards, Ryan Cherrington, Mac Milner and Mariabeth Murray travelled to the Kaeo Club to contest the monthly Presidents 100 Trophy.
All competitors performed impressively, with Richards shooting 100/100 targets to win the C-grade division, while Butson claimed B-grade with his 95/100.
This year, the team will train at Kaeo and Kaikohe monthly club competitions, which will see them up against adults and elite contestants.
Meanwhile, the trap team travelled to Kaitaia for round two of the secondary schools competition.
Again, Richards was in top form with 88 from 95, while Milner was close behind with a total of 86 shots. Butson had 77 from 95.
Murray placed fourth in the girl's single barrel and, overall, the team was fourth from 16 school teams.
In golf, Phoebe Perrin was busy during the holidays, playing at Muriwai for the North Island Strokeplay Championships, then moving on to Ngaruawahia for the New Zealand Under-19 Maori Strokeplay competition. Perrin also contested the New Zealand Amateur Strokeplay Championships at Remuera.
Bay of Islands senior netball team had a successful day at the Horeke B-grade competition, defeating Okaihau and the Horeke Housewives convincingly, followed by a narrow win over a Kaitaia mixed-grade team.
That win placed them in the final against Kerikeri, which they backed up to win 10-9, and captain Chevaye Hobson was named the best goal defence in B-grade.
Meanwhile, the girls' hockey team had a resounding win against Otamatea High School 2 at Whangarei, beating them 9-0.
Coach Jane Peita was pleased with how the players stepped up, including Te Aroha Parkinson and Laura Bruane, but player of the match went to Kyla Broughton-Campbell, who scored five goals.
Also in hockey, Bay of Islands student Laura Young was selected for the Northland under-16 representative side.
Winter sport is well under way for this term at Bay Of Islands College.
Three netball teams are taking part in the BOI Federation competition at Kaikohe on Saturdays and the boys' and girls' football teams began their campaigns last week for the midweek secondary schools competition. Also under way is first XV rugby.
