Whangarei's premier reserve grade clash between the two Wahine Toa teams was closely contested with the Wahine Toa 1 team only winning by seven goals, 45-38.
Wahine Toa 1 centre Stacey Te Puni provided great attacking drives and was also effective on defence. She was ably assisted by Aropereina Ponanga at wing defence who was strong and committed. Wahine Toa Combined defender Zara Pineha had a good game getting tips and rebounds. Te Aroha Palmer in centre worked tirelessly and did some outstanding attacking and defence work for her team, while Kiri Williams worked hard in the goal circle, shooting with confidence.
Pizza Barn BBC Waipu was still missing players with injury and they met a confident and dominant Global Diamonds Fideliter 2 side which was able to dominate with a 41-19 win.
Freda Whiu-Hemara in mid court had a solid game on defence, forcing the pass and allowing goal keep Katrina Simpson to get intercepts. Goal attack Kellie Metcalf, back from injury, had a great game and was instrumental in directing the play.
BBC Waipu's defence had to work overtime and due to the intense pressure from the Fideliter defence the shooters were unable to confidently convert much ball into goals.
The standout player for BBC Waipu was Paige Carter at goal defence who tried hard throughout the game.
Precision Planning Fideliter 3 had their first win, 40-35, against Marist Social. Fideliter 3 started strong and their mid court combination of Nane Miru and Louise Morgan played an effective and decisive game driving through court and feeding the ball into the circle with good effect.
Andi Roberts in defence also worked hard throughout the game, never giving up.
Marist Social's Maria Easterbrook in defence played a good game and was kept busy. She was joined by wing defence Pip Dickson, who played a good supportive game.
Errors on attack and inconsistent shooting proved costly for Marist Social who were unable to take the win in a tight game.
