Caroline Bon's Australian Open ended early yesterday after she shot a seven-over par 80 to miss the cut in her first major tournament as a professional.
The Whangarei golfer was on course to make the cut after an opening round of 75 but ran into bunker trouble yesterday as a storm interrupted Commonwealth Golf Club in Melbourne.
She scored par on her first five holes but dropped a shot on the par-five sixth and again on the eighth.
Things got worse quickly with a double bogey on the next hole and she dropped another shot on the 10th, before a second double bogey on the par-four 11th.
Bon finally halted the slump on the 12th with a par four, before birdieing the 13th. The rest of her card contained par scores except for another bogey on the penultimate hole.
Defending champion Yani Tseng shot a 6-under-par 67 to take a two-stroke lead in the tournament.
Tseng had a two-round total of 9-under 137. South Korean Ji Eun-hee was two shots back after a 70 while No1 Jiyan Shin was also at 7-under when the storm forced her from the course after 15 holes.
Jennifer Song of the United States, who shared the first-round lead with Shin, shot 73 and was three shots behind Tseng.
The 58 players who did not complete their second rounds will begin play this morning, with the 36-hole cut to be made following the completion of the round.
Australian Karrie Webb, who has won the tournament four times, was 2-under with one hole left to play in her second round.
English veteran Laura Davies shot a 76 and was tied for 43rd at 3-over, 12 shots behind Tseng.
