Whangarei's United Boxing Gym's Telea Kask won her division of the Golden Gloves at the North Island Championships held over the weekend in Taupo.
The 14-year-old beat Ate Te Tomo from Wairoa in the female Cadet Novice 48kg weight division at the event hosted by Central North Island Boxing Association.
She showed her skills off by easily outpointing her opponent nine points to two to secure the title. The victory improved her overall record to four wins from five bouts.
This is the first time a Golden Gloves title has been brought back to Northland since 2007 when another United boxer, Josh Bowman, won the U69kg class.
Telea has been trained for the past two years by Ricky Malcolm and Alan Malcolm.
Three fighters represented United Boxing Gym at the championship. Reece Bermingham and Kaha Rozenbaum had narrow losses in their respective finals.
A fourth Northland fighter, 13-year-old Kayla Munday from Oakura Boxing Gym, who is trained by Tim Bowman, also suffered a loss in her finals.
Kask's win qualifies her to compete in the national championships in Rotorua this October.
