TWO teams from the Kensington Bowling Club are off to Palmerston North this weekend to represent Northland in the Lion Foundation National Interclub Series.
The division one and division two teams both came through local qualifying tournaments before attending - and winning - the upper North Island region qualifiers at Coopers Beach.
Dispatching the best teams from Auckland, North Harbour and the Far North was a rare pleasure for the Northland bowlers but one that is certainly catching on this season.
The two teams will have their work cut out for them in Palmerston North.
With provincial powerhouses such as Canterbury, Waikato and Wellington at the tournament, the smaller provinces such as Hawke's Bay, Southland and Northland may have to play smart to overcome the odds.
The managers and/or reserve players Jude Ganley and Linda Brockbank are both second-year players who hope no one is unwell during the weekend-long competition, in case they have to cover for the more experienced bowlers.
Kensington Div 1 team: Singles, Caroline Downs. Pairs, Janice McLean, Anne Bateman. Fours, Nancy Jujnovich, Pam Arbon, Ann Muir, Maureen Parker. Manager, Jude Ganley.
Div 2 team: Singles, Glenda Norris-Palmer. Pairs, Shirley James, Maureen Rahui. Fours, Amy Burgess, Diane Flintoff, Silvia Batchelor, Janice Dalton. Manager, Linda Brockbank.
