Secondary School bowls was to the fore last week when a pairs tournament was conducted at the Ruawai Club.

Generous sponsorship came from Silver Fern Farms, Ruawai Bowling Club and the Ruawai Police.

Thirty-eight players took part and teams played three rounds of 45 minutes per game and were then placed in sections of four for the play-offs.

A trophy was presented on behalf of Silver Fern Farms by the event organiser, Malcolm Joynt, to the overall winners, Ruawai College No 1. Runners up in section 1 were Ruawai College 3.

In section 2 joint winners were Ruawai College 2 and Dargaville 5. In section 3 joint winners were Dargaville High 3 and Whangarei Boys' High 3. Section 4 saw Dargaville 2 take out the spoils from Whangarei Boys' High 2. Section 5 was a win to Whangarei Boys' High 1 over Dargaville High 6.

This event will be a trial day for the next Northland Secondary Schools representative team. Entries should be made through your school sports co-ordinator.
