Kaitaia College's Monte Pawa was one of the many youngsters in action at the Whangarei Indoor Bowls Secondary Schools Development Day on Friday, which proved the sport is thriving among all ages in the region.
Sixteen teams from Kaitaia College, Tikipunga High School, Kamo High, Whangarei Boys' High, Whangarei Girls' High, Pompalier College and Christian Renewal School, along with six teams from Blomfield School, entered the tournament hosted by the Whangarei association at Northland Indoor Bowls Centre.
Five rounds of triples were played to find winners, and the Kaitaia College 1 team of Pawa, Tori Vaillant and Shalimae Wilson emerged triumphant with 10 wins, 46 ends and 76 points in total, followed by Kamo High 2, with 10 wins, 35 ends and 83 points, then Tikipunga 1 in third with eight wins, 28 ends and 61 points.
