The Kamo Club champion team of Pam Brewster (skip), Sarah Wright, Maureen Church and Eileen Riceman took out the Centre Champion of Champion fours tournament on Saturday. Then, on Sunday, Brewster and Wright combined to come runner-up in the Champion of Champion pairs.

In the men's division, it was a battle between the evergreen John Dunn (Onerahi) and his team of Neil Connell, Ron Bowmar and Roger Kerr-Davis and the newer players on the centre block in Allan Stebben (skip), Adam Booth, Colin Pierce and Ron Heaton of Mangawhai.

This game took three hours to complete and it was 7.30pm when the players left the green. This game resulted in a win for Mangawhai by 16-9. This was a second title for Stebben, first open title for Pierce and Heaton, and second open title for Booth.

In the Champion of Champion pairs event on Sunday at Mangawhai, the winners of the men's event were Dan Collett and Neil King (Te Kopuru) who defeated Ken Fitness and Steve Smith (Whangarei) 20-12 in the final.

This was a second title for Collett and first for King.

In the women's division, Kensington combination of Pam Arbon and Patricia Murray took out the title with a 17-14 victory over Pam Brewster and Sarah Wright of Kamo.

It was 14-all on the 16th end but Kensington scored on the 17th and 18th ends to claim victory.

The next event on the centre calendar is the first Year Open tournament at the Whangarei greens on March 2. Entries close this weekend so clubs, please ensure that your new bowlers have entered.

This weekend sees the Northland representatives, (men and women) competing in the New Zealand Intercentre tournament in Auckland for the open grade.

Northland teams will compete tomorrow, Saturday and Sunday at greens throughout Auckland to become the NZ champions.

Headquarters is Howick Bowling Club and our teams will play at Hillsborough and Howick (women) and Mt Eden and Carlton Cornwall (men) on Friday and Saturday.

The Regional Intercentre tournament for the reserve grade will be held at the Kensington greens from 9.30am on Saturday.

These players need to come first or second in their competition on Saturday and then travel to Auckland on Sunday to play the winner and runner-up from Region 2 in a regional final at the Auckland Bowling Club.

Great result

Congratulations to the Hikurangi men's combination of Willie, Steve, Robin and Charlie who placed third equal in the New Zealand Maori Bowls tournament in Rotorua recently.

Feedback time

Player forums are currently being held around our centre. The agenda for these forums is to get player input for next season's playing programme. A meeting in Dargaville was held on February 14, another will be held at Kensington on February 25 and at Waipu on February 28 commencing at 7pm. All players are welcome.
