Greens news

I have been informed that former Northlanders, Brian Bateman and Kevin Robinson (now living in Australia) last weekend won the NSW State Pairs Championship, a very prestigious event in Oz.

Good bowling to the Northland teams competing next week in the Women's Chartered Clubs tournament being held at Wanganui. There are I believe four teams attending representing the Mangawhai and Kamo Clubs.

Next week also sees the start of the NZ Trust Open event in Auckland. This is a very big event this year with an outstanding turnout of entries for the Singles for Men and Women. Even the Australians are coming to play in this event for the first time for a couple of years. Once again a large contingent of Northlanders are competing in this event. Good luck to you all, I hope the rub of the green goes your way.

A get well message to Helen Nevill from all your bowling friends. Helen is a member of our 1-5 representative team who slipped and fell at the Mangawhai Club recently and has suffered two broken ankles. Hope all goes well for you and you are up and about in time for the next tournament in March.

Umpires' corner

Bowlers who are full members of two clubs, please remember that if you enter the championships at both clubs, when it comes to the champion of champion events you will be required to represent the club at which you won the event first. Except for the singles, clubs may apply to have a replacement player in a team where a dual member has won an event at more than one club.

For champion of champion events, clubs are reminded that reporting time for teams has been set at 8.15am.

This is because the draw for the day, charts and cards will now be done on the morning of play. Any team not present at that time cannot be included in the draw.

Scorecards are now required to be kept by the skips.

If only one card is used then the team that loses the toss at the commencement of play does the card, and the winners of the toss record the board. Remember these must be completed in full, signed and time the game finished recorded.
