Northland's Caroline Bon was pleased with her second round at the Australian Masters yesterday despite it looking like she'd be two or three shots off the cut for the weekend.
Bon's first round score of four-over par 76 left her with little hope of making the cut in the low scoring competition but yesterday's two-under 70 was a vast improvement and lifted her spirits ahead of the New Zealand Open next week.
"My game's going well, it wasn't an extreme problem [on Thursday], I just wasn't playing at the level these girls are operating at - but today I was back up there, so it was a much better result," she said.
The Whangarei golfer is still getting used to being a professional and said she was striving to become more consistent over 18 holes.
She shot two bogeys and four birdies during yesterday's round and was pleased that after each bogey she came back strongly and scored birdies on the following holes.
Bon's side of the draw struggled more in the conditions on the Gold Coast with the weather affecting both rounds.
"I had all my wet weather gear on this morning and it was hosing down but finally it cleared up.
"I think we got the dumb side of the draw though because yesterday they played in the calm but by the time we went out it was really windy for us," she said.
Bon arrives in Christchurch on Monday morning and will tee it up at the Pegasus Golf Course in Christchurch on Thursday.
