The 2008 Focus Cup served as good practice for Northland boccia players ahead of a busy schedule of events this season.
The tournament, held in Auckland last weekend, attracted six Northland Boccia players Michelle Batchelor, Neale Batchelor, Kimberley McLean, Andrew Phillips, Bryan Robinson and Annie Wihongi.
Neale Batchelor beat Bryan Robinson for the gold medal in the Open Grade while Wihongi beat paralympian Anthea Hurst to bring home bronze in the BC3 Grade and also won Most Improved Player. Nine Northland players will be competing in the Boccia Nationals this month, while Northland Boccia host the North Island Champs in September.
