Two members of the Whangarei BMX club have been selected for the New Zealand team to take on the Australians in a test series in Hamilton this weekend.
For Alana Annas the selection was her first, earned after her first place at the national trials at the same venue a month ago in the "Mighty 11" class. She was one of two girls selected in the division, along with number-one world ranked Hannah Surton, while five boys of the same age also made the grade.
Annas' 15-year-old coach Shane Eady also gained selection into the national team in the under-16 "senior" class.
It is Eady's second year in the New Zealand team and he went to Australia for the equivalent test series last year.
He has high hopes of success in this year's clash against the Aussies, with the team retaining the same line-up this year, with none of them graduating into higher age grades.
The pair's selection means they will also be invited to attend the World Championships in Beijing, before the Olympic Games next year. But the test series against the Aussies is the first hurdle for the pair. They will attend a training camp in Hamilton this week ahead of the test series.
