Whangarei Boys' High School First XI skipper Ben Hyde 2010-2011 season finished on a high note when he was awarded the Craigs Investment Partners Academy Player of the Year at the annual Northern Districts Cricket Awards.
The award came on the back of accolades Hyde has already collected this season, including the Bellahomes Northland Senior Secondary Boys Player of the Year award at the recent Northland Cricket Association Awards. The ND Academy player of three years is a top order batsman who has been a consistent performer for his premier club side along with the Northland First XI and the ND Under-18 side and, along with teammate Henry Cooper, was included in the New Zealand Under-19 Squad training for next year's ICC Under-19 World Cup.
Also handed out at the awards evening at the Novotel Tainui was the Basil McBurney Trophy, which Northland Second XI collected after going through the 2010-2011 season undefeated. Northland's Tony Edwards also picked up an award: the Allan McBride Trophy for his services to junior cricket in the region.
Meanwhile, Graeme Aldridge was named ND Player of the Year as well as ND Bowler of the Year.
Aldridge has been a great servant of ND cricket since his debut in the 1998-99 season. This season, he became the highest wicket taker in domestic one-day cricket in New Zealand. He took 53 wickets and performed outstandingly in all three formats. He has also worked hard on his batting and made important contributions during the season with a top score of 58 in the Plunket Shield and 47 in the one day competition.
