Auckland Centre have announced the holding of an open singles tournament to be held for amputee, wheelchair and blind bowlers on December 12-13. Up to four entries will be accepted from each centre in regions 1 and 2.
Entry will be free and lunches will be provided each day. Anyone interested in competing please contact your club or the centre office for further details.
Representative results
Only one round of play was possible at Coopers Beach last Sunday in the competition between Far North and Northland.
The greens were under water after an early lunch break and no further play was possible.
Some results may have caused a bit of a headache for selectors in the final stages of choosing representative teams to compete in upcoming major competitions.
Results: Men: Northland 4.5 wins, Far North 3.5 wins. Women: Northland 4.5 wins, Far North 3.5 wins.
Junior rep round
Northland, Far North, North Harbour and Auckland 1-5 representative teams will compete in the first round of their competition at Waipu greens on Sunday. Play gets underway at 9am.
NZ Coach of the Year
Congratulations to Ann Muir (Kensington) who has won this award for 2008-09. Her coaching ability extends beyond club and centre to national events as well, and it is pleasing to see this work recognised.
Upcoming tournaments
A mixed triples tournament to raise funds for the Kings Empire Veterans will be played at the Whangarei RSA greens on November 12. This tournament is not in your handbook. Please enter by phoning Dave Holwell.
Entries close today for the Centre Open Triples for men and women to be held October 17-18.
Entries close October 15 for the Centre Interclub Sevens tournament at Labour Weekend.
The winners go on to represent our centre in a regional final.
There are two divisions - clubs take action and enter your team now.
Well done, Mamaranui
Well done to the small western area club of Mamaranui, where the Barry Gorrie Memorial tournament was held last Saturday.
Conditions were not ideal with blustery northerlies and rain clouds hanging around all day but a full field of 16 teams took part.
The winning team was from the home club and included the new club green keeper, Chris Garea.
Helps to know your own turf! The tournament was sponsored by the Gorrie family, who have supported this club, which has just a handful of members, for the past 20 years.
