Back in December 2003, Kamo cricket club stalwart Murray Coop took his floppy hat off to a 15-year-old called Tim Southee.
Southee had smacked 50 runs for Whangarei Boys' High School's 1st XI, and then took 3-46 runs to help them win the game against Kamo.
WBHS had been down and out before Southee strode to the crease.
"He did something that a normal adult premier grade cricketer would be really proud of," Coop had said.
Five years later and Black Cap Southee is making Northlanders - and New Zealanders - proud by knocking over international batsmen such as Australian captain Ricky Ponting.
