Te Ahu Centre in Kaitaia opens

Kaitaia's Te Ahu Centre will become a national icon, Far North Mayor Wayne Brown says. The $14 million Te Ahu Centre was officially opened by Governor-General Sir Jerry Mateparae in a ceremony acknowledging the district's Maori, Pakeha and Dalmatian roots. The complex, built with about $8.5 million of ratepayer money, incorporates a library, i-Site, museum, council service centre, community hall, theatre, cafe and public spaces.
