Two rising Whangārei squash players have helped the New Zealand Secondary Schools team retain the Trans-Tasman Secondary Schools trophy against New South Wales and Queensland teams in Australia.
The National Secondary Schools Squash Teams tournament was held in Palmerston North earlier this month. Shea Ferguson from Whangārei Girls' High School and Riley-Jack Vette-Blomquist, Whangārei Boys' High School, were named in the New Zealand Secondary Schools teams to play against NSW and Queensland teams in Australia.
The Trans-Tasman competition was held last week and Ferguson and Vette-Blomquist represented Northland admirably in Australia with the NZ Secondary Schools team and completed their tour with a win in the test series versus an Australian selection, claiming the singles matches 15-5 and the doubles 8-2.
After a strong national secondary school tournament Ferguson was selected in the Junior Girls Team and Vette-Blomquist in the Senior Boys Team. Anna Moselen from Kamo High was named as the reserve for the Senior Girls Team.
Whangārei Boys' High School and Whangārei Girls' High both placed fifth at the national tournament with the Kamo High Girls team placing 18th.
