Woman allegedly stabbed multiple times

A 59-year-old Whangarei woman was taken to hospital in a serious condition after allegedly being stabbed multiple times by her flatmate.

The incident occurred at a house on Limeburners Place in Morningside about 4.15am today, Northland police spokesperson Sarah Kennett said.

The flatmate, a 29-year-old man from Whangarei, was arrested at the scene and has since been charged with assault.

Ms Kennett was unable to comment on the circumstances around the incident but said the woman was stabbed "multiple" times.
