Police are keen to talk to any witnesses of a fatal crash that occurred on State Highway 1 at Puhoi early Friday afternoon.
Police believe motorists may have seen a group of motorbikes travelling northbound and riding erratically or overtaking on double yellow lines.
The riders were understood to bepatched Black Power members on their way to a tangi in the Northland area, police said. Two motorcycles were travelling on the wrong side of the road when they collided with two oncoming cars and a rider, a 54-year-old man from Stratford, died from injuries he received.
