A huge sports memorabilia fundraiser for cancer charity Project Promise has lost one All Black great but gained another.
The Project Promise fundraising auction being held at ASB Stadium, in Kensington, on October 12, was to see up to 600 people sit down to dinner with rugby and cricket greats Sir John Kirwan, Gary Whetton, Martin Crowe and Andrew Jones.
However, Project Promise committee member Terry Ward said Whetton could not make the night but that initial disappointment was alleviated with the news former All Black superboot Grant Fox would take Whetton's place.
Mr Ward said the auction would be an amazing event with outstanding speakers and, with more than 400 tickets already sold, people wanting to hear the legends speak needed to hurry up.
Signed jerseys by Dan Carter, NZ Barbarians, Black Caps, NZ Maori All Blacks and Sarah Ulmer will be up for auction, as well as a cricket shirt signed by Indian legend Sachin Tendulkar from the recent series against the Black Caps.
