A major wastewater project beneath a Whangārei park is nearly finishes, but full access to the park looks set to be restricted to the public for some time.
Whangārei District Council's project manager Casper Kandori said the main work - construction of a 650 cubic metre underground storage tank, a control room and a UV treatment area - was done.
Minor work, including electrical and landscaping on top of the construction, still need to be carried out.
He hoped the project would be completed by the end of August.
Kandori said during big storm events, wastewater and rainwater will overflow into the tank.
