While the inauguration of Donald Trump will be one of the most fascinating events to hit a stage this year, Whangarei's National MP says he expects the drama will be off stage when he attends the event this week.
Speaking from Washington DC ahead of Saturday's inauguration, Dr Shane Reti said he was heading to the US in a personal capacity but would be attending the Trump event.
"I'll be there in the crowd."
He was in the US to meet someone far more important than Mr Trump, however.
"My little granddaughter Amelia is just 4 months old and lives in Washington DC and this will be my first time meeting her," Dr Reti said.
Dr Reti, who lived in Boston for seven years, said he would be keeping an eye on the drama that would be unfolding off stage at the inauguration.
