Matthew Brown learned to play bridge growing up in Whangarei and now he's competing at the highest international level.
The 21-year old is in the New Zealand team, dubbed the Bridge Blacks. And they are vying for third place in the world's top bridge competition, the Bermuda Bowl.
The team is playing off for the bronze medal against Bulgaria in the second and final day of a battle that will culminate New Zealand time tonight.
Not only is Mr Brown the youngest player in the team, he is part of this country's bridge playing history.
Win the round or not, this is the highest level a New Zealand team has reached in a world final championship.
