The Whananaki footbridge linking North and South Whananaki has been damaged and is closed until further notice.
A bridge pile about 40 metres from the northern end of the bridge and under water surface level has been damaged by a boat, log or similar large object, making it dangerous and unusable. Signs have been placed at both ends of the bridge restricting access and advising of the bridge closure, and will remain in place until the damaged structure can be repaired.
Boaties are also advised to use caution when travelling under the bridge, especially the northern end of the bridge.
The structure is currently being assessed. At this stage it is not known when repairs will be completed, and people are advised to make alternative arrangements to travel between North and South Whananaki in the foreseeable future.
