Enjoy the outdoors for the remainder of 2017 in Northland then settle indoors with a board game and a good book during the start of New Year.
A wet and windy start to 2018 awaits New Year's revellers in Northland after mostly fine spells so far this summer, weather boffins are predicting.
MetService meteorologist Cameron Coutts said the weather would be pretty settled heading into this weekend before a complex pressure system to the east of the North Island arrived late Sunday.
That system would bring rain and north-easterly winds and is expected to last a couple of days.
Mr Coutts said the southerly flow contributed to the present cooler weather but a change to northeasterlies on Sunday would raise both night and daytime temperatures.
